Italian Sonnet


Description: An Italian Sonnet, also known as Petrarchan Sonnet, is a type of poem consisting of 14 lines written in iambic pentameter. It is divided into two parts: an octave (eight lines) followed by a sestet (six lines) with a volta (a turn or change in thought) between them. Italian Sonnets traditionally follow the rhyme scheme ABBA ABBA CDC DCD.
